CHCI's NextGen Program Supports Young, Emerging Leaders of Puerto Rico
The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) dedicated its 2017 Holiday Reception to raising awareness about the situation in Puerto Rico and to benefit students in their R2L NextGen Program. This program provides high school students from Puerto Rico the chance to spend time in Washington, D.C., explore the city, learn about politics and government, and engage with Members of Congress.
"I am happy to be here tonight in front of President Madison, one of the authors of the Bill of Rights. I believe he would be outraged today to see fundamental rights being violated in Puerto Rico," stated Rep. Soto.
Congressman Darren Soto, a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, delivered remarks thanking CHCI for their work in providing professional opportunities and valuable life-long experiences to young Latinos. Soto also provided an update on the continued dire situation in Puerto Rico and reiterated the need for Congress to work together and support rebuilding efforts on the island.
