Orlando's Puerto Rican Day Parade & Festival

April 30, 2018

My fellow Boricuas,

The devastation of Hurricane Maria was unprecedented. And the recovery has been too slow. But the storm did not – could not – crush the Boricua spirit.

The people of the Island, and the people I'm honored to represent in Congress, stretching across Central Florida, have risen to the challenge. I am working with colleagues to speed the recovery, and to make sure we rebuild better. Our fellow citizens in Puerto Rico deserve no less than the fullest assistance we can give them. Just think about it…

Puerto Ricans have given so much to America and the world – wherever we live, we bring our culture, our food, our dances. We bring a work ethic that has built great cities on the mainland, from New York to Chicago, and beyond. Our Borinqueneer brothers have defended freedom in combat. And of course, we have helped make Central Florida the wonderful place that we are privileged to call our home.

Congress should uplift the Boricua spirit that never gives up, and recommit to building a better future. It is my humble honor to serve a community that does so much for our country. I will continue to do all I can to repay your faith in me.
It is an honor to join you in this recognition and in the fight to rebuild our enchanting Island.

Unidos!
