Washington, D.C. – - Representative Darren Soto (FL-09) issued the following statement after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's announced a formal impeachment inquiry against President Trump:

“I am supportive of an impeachment inquiry as part of our oversight duties in Congress. President Trump admitted to asking a foreign power to help his re-election campaign. Subsequently, he tried to cover wrongdoing by refusing to disclose the whistleblower.  This is in addition to other matters already subject to an impeachment inquiry, including 10 alleged counts of obstruction of justice: accepting unlawful loans by Russian entities, misusing funds to build his border wall, and violating the Emoluments Clause (known as the anti-bribery clause) related to his hotels. These are a blatant violations of our laws and a betrayal to our country.

"The American people deserve the truth. I remain open-minded about impeachment based on Judiciary Committee’s evidence and investigation. Impeaching a President is a serious and historic matter that should follow regular order. What we do today sets a precedence for the future.”
