Soto, Frost Announce Over $180 Million in INFRA Funding for Truck Parking Spaces Along I-4

KISSIMMEE, FL — Today, Reps. Darren Soto (FL-09) and Maxwell Alejandro Frost (FL-10) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation approved Florida for over $180 million in Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) funds to add approximately 917 truck parking spaces across four sites along I-4 in Central Florida.

“The announcement of an over $180 million INFRA grant to add more than 900 parking spaces along I-4 is wonderful news. This will not only help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but also help prevent accidents and prioritize the safety of our nation’s truck drivers,” said Congressman Soto. “If truck drivers find safe parking, they can properly rest, take breaks during unsafe conditions, and prevent issues that further slow our supply chains. I’m proud to have voted to pass the Infrastructure Law during the 117^th Congress to expand these funding opportunities and create others. Democrats will continue investing in America to improve our infrastructure for future generations.”

“Central Florida’s I-4 corridor has the highest unmet truck parking demand in the state, leaving a lasting negative impact on truck drivers’ safety and our supply chain’s ability to deliver for Floridians,” said Congressman Frost. “I’m thankful that our federal government is stepping in to protect hard-working drivers who deserve safe roads and sufficient parking spaces for rest when needed. Securing an over $180 million investment in Florida’s infrastructure and the safety and well-being of all of our drivers on the road is a win-win for the Sunshine State.”

Increased parking for trucks along I-4 will have several benefits for drivers passing through the area and those living in Central Florida. This will help:

• Reduce pollution and move us closer to President Biden’s ambitious goal of cutting emissions in half by 2030
• Reduce the frequency and severity of commercial motor vehicle crashes on I-4
• Prioritize the safety of truck drivers by ensuring they have enough places to safely park and take breaks 

The Infrastructure Law increased funding for the INFRA program by over 50%. Over the course of five years, the Infrastructure Law is set to provide approximately $8 billion for the INFRA grant program.
