In honor of Black History Month 2020, U.S. Congressman Darren Soto held a ceremony recognizing eleven individuals in Central Florida for their accomplishments. The honorees' biographies were submitted into the Congressional Record and they received official Congressional Certificates.
Rep. Darren Soto (FL-09) announced a $40 million Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) loan from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to the Toho Water Authority in Kissimmee, Florida. The loan will help finance projects that will improve the efficiency of the existing sewer and wastewater management systems and support community growth without needing to expand the existing wastewater treatment facility.
Rep. Darren Soto (FL-09) delivered Valentine's Day cards to veterans at the Lake Nona VA Medical Center. Two weeks ago, the Congressman called on students from his district to make handmade cards to show veterans that they are loved. His office received over a hundred submissions and wide participation from Ventura, Sand Lake and Boggy Creek Elementary Schools.
Today, Reps. Darren Soto (FL-09) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) introduced H.R. 5857, the Ban Fracking Act, a federal bill to phase out fracking nationwide in the United States. A companion bill was introduced in the Senate by Senators Bernie Sanders (VT-I) and Jeff Merkley (OR-D).

Today, Rep. Darren Soto (FL-09) announced his first ever "Valentines for Vets" initiative, a program in which elementary school students from all around his district are encouraged to write Valentine's Day cards for veterans. The cards will be hand delivered by the Congressman on Valentine's Day to the Lake Nona VA Medical Center.
Today, U.S. Representatives Darren Soto (D-FL) and Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) introduced the Food Safety Modernization for Innovative Technologies Act, a bipartisan bill which would formalize a regulatory framework for food derived from cell-cultured technology.
Yesterday, Rep. Darren Soto (FL-09) announced that Jessica Carrillo, a woman who fled to Central Florida after the recent earthquakes in Puerto Rico, will join him as his guest to the State of the Union in Washington, D.C. on February 4, 2020, at 9:00 PM.
Carrillo was invited to highlight her story and the story of thousands of families who were forced to leave their homes as a result of Puerto Rico's devastating earthquakes.
