Congressman Soto's Statement on the Firing of FBI Director Comey
Today, Congressman Soto (FL-09) released the following statement:
"At this point, I think the American people agree that only an independently appointed special counsel can fairly and rigorously investigate whether the Trump campaign violated American law by actively conspiring with Russia to win the 2016 election.
Former FBI Director James Comey was fired days after he requested more resources from the U.S. Justice Department to continue the Trump presidential campaign investigation, and was expected to testify today before the Senate Intelligence Committee. All U.S. Intelligence agencies agree that Russia interfered in the Presidential election in support of Trump.
I join the call for an impartial and transparent probe. There's no doubt in my mind that Americans expect no less from their elected leaders and their government. We will continue to protect our democracy and our constitutional values. Americans deserve the truth. No one is above the law, including the President of the United States."
Congressman Darren Soto represents Florida’s 9th Congressional District, which includes Osceola County, as well as parts of Orange and Polk counties.
