Rep. Soto Helps Secure Rural Development Federal Grant for Polk County
Kissimmee, Florida – U.S. Representative Darren Soto (FL-09) announced that the Town of Lake Hamilton was awarded $139,600 in federal grants for its Police Department to purchase six new police vehicles and related operational equipment. The USDA Rural Development award, administered and granted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, funds essential services to and development of local communities in primarily rural areas.
“I am proud to announce the USDA Community Facilities Grant awarded to Polk County, which funds equipment for better public safety in Lake Hamilton,” stated Rep. Soto. “Earlier this year, my office worked with Lake Hamilton’s city officials in developing a successful grant application. The award funded the purchase of six new police cruisers, replacing existing fleet due to the age and conditions of patrol cars. My office will continue working to make sure Central Florida has the federal resources necessary to keep our community safe.”
According to the Department of Agriculture, the Rural Community Development Initiative Grants, part of the Community Facilities Direct Loan & Grant Program, is available to rural municipalities with populations of less than 20,000. Additional information about the program can be found on the USDA website at https://www.rd.usda.gov/programs-services/community-facilities-direct-loan-grant-program.
Congressman Soto will continue to support and encourage federal grant applications that improve the lives of Floridians. His office has a staffer dedicated to identifying grants and working with members of the community to navigate the federal grants process.
