Rep. Soto Statement on the Passing of Chairman Elijah Cummings
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Darren Soto (FL-09) released the following statement on the passing of Chairman of the House Oversight Committee and Representative of Maryland's Seventh District, Elijah Cummings:
"Today, our nation lost a true man of the people and a fearless champion for our democracy. Elijah Cummings' leadership was one of conscious and conviction to always fight for what was just for the American people. Anyone who crossed paths with him knew just how much his passion to do good was fueled by his love for his family, his constituents and his country."
"His dedication to the American people and the integrity of our nation was most evident to me when we worked together on whistleblower issues at the Orlando International Airport and held the administration accountable for their failure to provide disaster relief for Puerto Rico. It was then that I was able to see his heart of gold."
"May the memory of his legacy live on in Maryland, across the country and through the halls of Congress."
Congressman Darren Soto represents Florida's 9th District in the U.S. House of Representatives, which includes Osceola County, as well as parts of Orange and Polk counties.
