June 17, 2020

KISSIMMEE, FL - Today, Rep. Darren Soto (FL-09) announced Jainelys Rivera Riveraas the winner for the 2020 Congressional Art Competition. Each spring, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives to recognize and encourage artistic talent in America. Despite the unexpected changes to their daily life due to COVID-19, ten students from across Florida's Ninth Congressional District submitted their artwork virtually. The winner, 16-year-old Jainelys Rivera Rivera from Osceola County School for the Arts, submitted a photograph called "Light from the Sky."

"I am proud to announce Jainelys Rivera Rivera as this year's Congressional Art Competition winner for Florida's Ninth District," said Rep. Soto. "Every year, I am astonished by the great talent displayed in these young students and this year is no exception. I will be proud to walk through the halls of Congress and see Jainelys's art piece representing our beautiful district."

"My piece represents the great and beautiful value in the small things," said Rivera Rivera.

Last month, Congressman Soto hosted a virtual reception with the participants and their families to announce the winner. The winner's art piece will be on display at the U.S. Capitol for a year along with the winning art of students from every district of the country.
