Press Release

Reps. Darren Soto (FL-09) and Jim Costa (CA-16) released the following statement after introducing a resolution which recognizes Tom Flores for his achievements in professional football and calls for his induction to the Pro Football Hall of Fame:

“As society progresses, we become ever more mindful our nation’s diverse history, and the first Hispanic quarterback, Tom Flores, is no exception,” said Rep. Soto. “Flores was a multiple time Super Bowl Champion, both as a quarterback and as a coach. These victories are made even more meaningful by the fact that he was in every sense an NFL trailblazer. It’s time for his name to be etched into the history books with his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. I am proud to work with Congressman Costa to introduce this resolution!”

“On the weekend when we’re celebrating the best in professional football, I can think of no better time to call for recognition of Tom Flores’ accomplishments on the gridiron,” said Costa. “As one of only two people in history – and first Latino - to win multiple Super Bowls as a player, assistant coach, and head coach, he has done more than enough to be deserving of this honor.”

Congressman Darren Soto represents Florida’s 9th District in the U.S. House of Representatives, which includes Osceola County, as well as parts of Orange and Polk counties.
