U.S. Rep. Soto Resists TrumpCare on House Floor Speech: “Vote Yes on America’s Working Families”
WASHINGTON, D.C. -Congressman Darren Soto (FL-09) continues the fight for America’s working families and the elderly in anticipation of today’s expected vote on TrumpCare. On Wednesday, Congressman Soto took his fight to the House Floor where he highlighted by the numbers how the legislation would hurt Americans if it becomes law.
"Chaos reigns in Washington as the vote to pass Trumpcare today remains uncertain. As Donald Trump continues to slash benefits in the bill to court the Tea Party, moderate Republicans face a stark dilemma. We Democrats remain united in opposition since 24 million Americans lose coverage and rates will increase 15% to 20% under Trumpcare," Soto said--and price increases will affect virtually every American.
During his speech, Soto urged his colleagues in Congress to vote no on Trump Care and explained why supporting the measure would be a disaster for America and how many will be kicked off medical coverage to give tax benefits to the wealthy. Furthermore, it would particularly impact his constituents, many of whom are Hispanics, people of color and families living paycheck to paycheck.
“Twenty-four million Americans will lose coverage with 14 million losing coverage in a year. If you are paying $1,700 you will be paying up to a $14,600 minimum increase for a 64-year old making $26,500 per year,” Soto said during his speech. “Where does the money go? $592 billion in tax cuts for the rich.”
