21 Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), led by Representative Lou Correa (CA-46) and CHC Civil Rights Task Force Chair Representative Darren Soto (FL-09), sent a letter to Secretary Wilbur Ross outlining their concerns with proposed changes to the 2020 Census. The inclusion of a citizenship question, as well as, unresolved issues from the 2010 Census jeopardizing the accuracy of the 2020 Census, potentially taking billions of dollars in federal funds and accurate congressional representation from communities across the country.

Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed six amendments offered by Congressman Darren Soto in the National Defense Authorization Act (HR5515), which authorizes funds and sets policy for defense-related activities for Fiscal Year 2019. Rep. Soto's provisions will advance high-tech manufacturers in the district, equip Florida's JROTC curriculum with cybersecurity and computer programming; and assist military members who are recovering from trauma related to sexual assault.

Central Florida representatives Val Demings, Stephanie Murphy, and Darren Soto announced today that Orlando will receive $1.5 million in anti-terrorism funding under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) program. This is the first time since 2014 that Orlando will receive UASI funding and the most funding the city will receive under the program since 2012.

Washington, D.C. Today, the House passed by voice vote Rep. Darren Soto's bill, the Kissimmee River Wild and Scenic River Study Act of 2017 (H.R. 3961), which would designate Central Florida's river and its tributaries in the state of Florida for study under the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System. This designation grants the River critical ecological protections.
