Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Darren Soto introduced legislation today honoring the 65th Infantry Regiment, known as the Borinqueneers, by designating a United States Postal Service facility in Kissimmee, Florida as the "Borinqueneers Post Office Building". The bill is co-sponsored by Florida's entire congressional delegation.

WASHINGTON – Central Florida Representatives Stephanie Murphy, Val Demings and Darren Soto, today announced that the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has awarded a nearly $12 million grant to the Florida Department of Transportation, MetroPlan Orlando, and the University of Central Florida to jointly develop "intelligent transportation technologies" that will be used to make transportation safer and more accessible for drivers, transit riders, pedestrians, and bicyclists in the Orlando area.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Reps. Grace Meng (D-NY), Nydia Velázquez (D-NY), Darren Soto (D-FL), Luis V. Gutiérrez (D-IL), and José Serrano (D-NY), in response to the humanitarian crisis in Puerto Rico, introduced the Humanitarian Disaster Relief Act of 2017 to permit waiving the Jones Act for humanitarian relief efforts.
"It is clear we need to adjust the Jones Act to permit waivers for humanitarian relief," said Rep. Meng.

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Darren Soto introduced H.R.3829, The Uniform Federal Grants for Resilient Infrastructure and Design (TUFGRID) Act of 2017, legislation that will help make our nation's electric infrastructure more resilient to natural disasters. The bill is designed to provide grants to states, local governments, and electric utilities for long-term investment in durable electric infrastructure.

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Darren Soto announced today that the City of St. Cloud's Fire Rescue Department will receive a $38,826 grant to enhance their response capabilities and more effectively protect the health and safety of Central Florida residents. The Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) is a program of the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency, in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Darren Soto authored letters today requesting the White House, U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), to provide additional support for the U.S. territories of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, as the Caribbean begins to recover from catastrophic natural disasters. All three letters were signed by a bipartisan group of Members of Congress, including South Florida's Cuban-American delegation, U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rican representatives.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Soto expressed opposition to Republicans' latest Trumpcare legislation, which the Senate GOP hopes to rush to a vote next week. The Cassidy-Graham bill would likely lead to greater numbers of uninsured after 2026 and a new state-by-state report shows that the plan would rob $17 billion from Floridian's health care by 2027 alone.
