Dear neighbor,
Our fellow Floridians in the Panhandle and Big Bend just faced one of the strongest Hurricanes our state has witnessed in decades. There are over 400,000 people without power, massive property damage, and communication services are still down. Over 8,400 people are in shelters, and that number is expected to increase today.
Dear Central Floridians,
Like you, I am concerned about a possible government shutdown and what this means for our country. Please know that I do not take this lightly. We need bipartisan solutions for Congress to work, not a dysfunctional blame-game that jeopardizes American lives.
Representative Darren Soto voted "NO" on a Continuing Budget Resolution in order to push Congress to work swiftly to resolve unfinished legislative business. The measure ultimately passed the House by a vote of 235-193 and the Senate by 81-14 on December 7, 2017.
Congressman Darren Soto said, "The people of Puerto Rico have spoken. By an overwhelming margin, they have voted to become full partners in our great country. They have voted for statehood. I said I would respect – and fight – for their wishes, and that's exactly what I intend to do. This is now a matter of civil rights and equality.
Congressman Soto joined Congresswoman Val Demings and others in remembering the 49 victims of the Pulse nightclub attack, one year later.
